ABOUT THE CRIKEY! CURRICULUM
In keeping with Australia Zoo’s motto, Conservation Through Exciting Education, we provide educational experiences that are engaging for students, but we also want to ensure that they are worthwhile from a teacher’s point of view.
At Australia Zoo we strive to make our education programs relevant to Queensland schools and teachers, by structuring them in accordance with the Key Learning Areas (KLAs) and their associated outcomes, as prescribed in the syllabi published by the Queensland School Curriculum Council.
Under the umbrella of Crikey Curriculum, we can cater to your requirements by offering either a comprehensive Discovery Experience, one of our traditional Tribe Talks, or for the more independent group, a Self-guided Safari.
We have several exciting new programs under development, so watch this space!
Discovery Experiences
Our new Discovery Experiences are designed to be complete educational experiences, incorporating pre- and post-visit activities, and suggestions on how to assess student learning. Koala Capers! is our debut experience, aimed at lower primary school students.
Tribe Talks
Tribe Talks are our traditional educational experiences, designed to supplement your class’ visit to the Zoo. Students receive an informative and engaging presentation at the Zoo, on one of our various topics. Our most popular topics are Endangered Species and Reptile Rap. These talks also incorporate a visit from a furred, feathered or scaly friend.
Self-guided Safari
On a Self-guided Safari your group makes its own way around the Zoo, accompanied by your sense of adventure! Upon confirmation of your booking, we will send you worksheets to help guide and encourage the children to learn more about the animals that they will see. The Bush Track, our first Self-guided Safari, is aimed at preparatory and early primary school students.
