BINDI Irwin yesterday stripped off her warm overcoat and shivered in chilly New York to promote Australian tourism.

While Jeff Fatt from The Wiggles revealed he had slipped a thermal shirt under his purple skivvy, Bindi volunteered to ditch her parka and pose in the cold next to an array of local cultural exports in New York City’s landmark Times Square.

The eight-year-old upstaged all of them including her mother, Terri Irwin, widow of Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, who was killed by a stingray in September. Terri might have been named an official ambassador but someone forgot to tell Bindi.

Fresh from promoting G’day USA in Los Angeles, the Irwins and Wiggles arrived in New York just as the mercury plummeted. It is the first time the annual event has travelled to New York. They were joined by Priscilla, Queen of the Desert characters, surf lifesavers and the Qantas girls’ choir.
